SEEQS Middle School Public Presentations of Learning

Finalizing the 2015 semester, students from SEEQS middle school hosted their public presentations of learning right here at KCC on Dec. 10th, 2015. The presentations were on their projects, all with a subject of sustainability, that they have been working on from the beginning of the semester. These projects fell under three categories: Food, Biodiversity, and Coexistence. The projects ranged from simple to very complex.  One example is making environmentally friendly soaps from scratch. I had an opportunity to work with a pair of students, Zoe and Cala. Zoe and Cala were working on a solar powered air conditioning system to help beat the heat (see pictures above). They completed their project and got rave reviews at the presentation.

What’s even cooler than the students’ projects is the school they are attending. SEEQS stands for Students Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability and is a public charter school located right down the street from KCC in Kaimuki. The students spend every day relating their core middle school curriculum to questions of sustainability. Check them out at their website:

“We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist, using technologies that haven’t been invented, in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.” – Karl Fisch
