Exploring My Backyard and Beyond 2-Weeks Summer Program for Rising 7th Graders to Discover the Fun and Build Skills and Career Interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
The EXPLORING MY BACKYARD AND BEYOND SUMMER PROGRAM is designed to strengthen middle-school students’ knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics utilizing placebased education and Pacific ways of learning at cultural and academic sites. Participating students are primarily Pacific Islanders from Pālolo Housing and all are students at Jarrett Middle School. The program has room for up to fifteen rising 7th graders. Up to five older middle- and high-school students and former program participants are invited to participate as mentors and youth leaders. Sponsors: UHM College of Social Sciences Program for Civic Engagement and the Kapiʻolani Community College Service Learning Office, student clubs ESW and PAPA, and many others.
